la cocina/ The kitchen

This is how my kitchen looks at this moment…

After a big step forward in August I finally ended my kitchen! Not true, in fact, you know ,,,,,,
there is always something to do, to add or to modify ;)  Few weeks ago I was setting up the pink bedroom at third floor when my dream-kitchen crossed my mind, and I saw it clear.. I had everything I needed… even though a lot of things were spread in thousand boxes at my cozy workshop, not hidden enough to prevent starting… :P

I started with the tiled walls. I dived hundreds of posts and tutorials (God bless the Internet!), tried several times with “putty”, expanded polystyrene, EVA foam, etc.. And eventually…this last one fitted the best, so I prepared some templates until I got the size and look they show now. Credits to MaraGVerdugo , she showed me the “Alkil” product and the varnish sprays. Thank you!

I already had all the furniture and almost every accessories I used, I just bought the copper pots and the two pieces of glass. As you may recognise they are past collectibles: hanging dishes, the kitchen sink, ….

Some things were made by me, e.g. the lamps. The big one is made of trinkets from an old bracelet and some beads of glass, I wanted to get an antique look…I don’t really know if I made it! The one in the picture is the second attempt and I must confess, even though I repeated it, nowadays I would prefer the first one. :( Light fixtures are made with some lampshades I already had and some tiny plastic tubes

The two vases at the top ledge are made from the metal part at the end of the cord, like the ones normally used in a coat. The woods holding the ledges are tiny pieces from clamps.

There is an interesting fact about the signs hanging on the wall. They are chocolate bar covers from the sixties.

My dad owned a small chocolate factory, inherited from his dad. When he modernised the factory he also updated the covers and he thought about calling each type of chocolate bar after his childs’ nicknames (We were really small) and some chocolate bars after the family name. Thus, “Iñaki” was the name for the dark chocolate bar, “Luli” (My nickname) was the name for the milk chocolate bar, “Yeyes” was for the almond chocolate bar, “Tono” for the fondant chocolate, “Lena” with hazelnuts, and some older called after the family name “Palá”. It was really innovative by that time and also a  cute idea! I wanted them to be in my kitchen as old commercial signs and as a tribute to my father too because he came up with my nickname “Luli”.

The blue vase is made of a pen cap and an earring base.

As I already had all these things I guess I’ll add some more to improve the staging and I’ll remove the ugliest ones, perhaps I’ll put a new chair and a better chocolate cake (I think one can easily notice this one is repurposed).

The furniture’s aged look was made following some tutorials by MaraGVerdugo. (Thanks once again!)

The ground floor deck is an aged parquet flooring. I think it will need some sanding and some varnish soon.

The curtains, the pinny, rags, wipes and the sink clothes were also made by me. The broom and the dustpan too (from a milk tetra brick package). Lots of details came from furniture, pieces and some other things people gave me during the past years because they knew about my miniature passion.

Esto podría ser un amanecer ............

This could be a sunrise….........

The chicken is ready for dinner… Keep it warm in the oven!

The clock is made from an old one. The base is a bead.

Cuanto he aprendido con ensayo/error. Menos mal que llego internet y vuestros tutoriales. :)

Since I discovered the “Cartonmat” every wall I build up is removable. What an advantage! Before that it was really burdensome, wallpapering wood walls or putting balsa wood! I learnt a lot through trial and error experiences. Thank God Internet arrived with your posts and tutorials!

Y esta es la visión final.

And this is the final version.

Ah! me ha gustado tu historia familiar, me he imaginado esa fábrica y a vosotros pequeñitos, comiendo chocolate.
    Un placer, besos

  4. Hi Luli! :D Just wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed touring your kitchen. I think that you have filled the kitchen with love and LOTS of marvelous details too. I really admire your chandelier and have enjoyed how you have mixed the formal with the informal. The photos showing the effect of the different times of day within the kitchen are also another great detail. This and the Blue Bedroom showcased in your earlier post, are 2 Really Lovely Rooms and I look forward to seeing more rooms, as time goes on. Is this the Beacon Hill doll's house? Just curious. :))

    1. Hi Elisabeth! :)

I'm really flattered with your words. Coming from you they mean a lot to me. I'm over the moon! :D

My house is older than the Beacon Hill doll's house, it's the "Cambridge" Model by Dura-Craft Inc., Oregon, USA from 1991.

BIG thank you for your comment!

      Keep in touch.
